It's been a while since I last had chicken rice, and I was craving it earlier, so I decided to go for it. It's definitely one of my top dishes, and I try to have it as often as I can. It's also a very popular dish, with chicken rice stalls in almost every food center in the city. It's easy to find, but I have to admit—not all chicken rice stalls are as good as the really great ones I know. That's why I keep a list of food stalls in locations I'm familiar with. I remember the good ones for two reasons: quality and affordability.
I happened to pass by the Tanjong Katong area, and since I knew a place that serves a good-quality dish at a reasonable price, I decided to have my dinner there.
The stall is called Wang Lao Wu Chicken King, and it's located in the Jalan Batu Food Centre.
They specialize in chicken rice but also offer roasted pork and a variety of vegetable side dishes.
The item on their menu that caught my eye was the chicken rice set. It’s the same chicken rice meal but comes with steamed vegetables and a free soup. At SGD 5.50, I think it’s great value for money and quite satisfying as well.
I usually go for the steamed chicken, but this time, I wanted to try something different, so I went with the roasted chicken instead.
The sautéed vegetables I was given were bok choy, one of my favorites. I love its subtle flavor, and when cooked just right, it has a nice crunchy texture too.
It looks like summer is setting in here in the city. The weather is already warm and humid, and the cool breeze is nowhere to be found. I felt tired easily today, so I treated myself to a refreshing, oversized cup of coconut water with pulp!
Overall, my meal was both satisfying and great value for money, making it a solid choice for a simple yet delicious dinner. The combination of flavorful roasted chicken, crunchy bok choy, and refreshing coconut water was exactly what I needed on a warm day. I'll definitely keep this spot on my list for future cravings!
