Hey lovelies ❤️
It's your favorite girl @debbie-ese 😍
Welcome to my blog 🤗
I told my husband some times ago that the rent we pay in our apartment isn't only for the house we live in but also for the abundance of fruits at our disposal - all thanks to our Landlord who designed his house to be a mini garden. The beauty about the apartment is that it is not just where we sleep but it is a place where you can experience nature in its entirety. If we are not sitting under the trees to enjoy the cool refreshing evening breeze, we are plucking and enjoying the sweet fruits on the trees.
My landlord, who I mistook for an horticulturist the first time I entered the premises with my husband due to the variety of trees and flowers that were planted, created a comfortable environment for us. The flowers were planted inside and outside the compound, while the trees were planted only inside the compound. These trees provides the needed shade for the building and reduces direct sun rays to a reasonable extent. While on the other hand, the flowers of course beautifes the premises.
Since the first year I moved to the apartment I have been enjoying abundance of fruits from the mango and orange trees as well as lemon tree. I eagerly anticipate the fruits seasons every year. One common characteristics about all the produce from these trees is that they are big. The oranges are my favourite - it is not like the ones that I use to buy in the market. It is juicy and sweet. On the other hand, the lemons come handy as well anytime I need them.
The mangoes are also big, juicy and sweet. However, I'm going to state this as my less favourite not because it's not sweet nor juicy but because of the challenge it poses to us. According to my landlord, the challenge has been reoccurring for years and they haven’t been able to get a lasting solution. The problem is that as the mango ripens, it attracts birds. This means that these birds will perk the mango and leave it fully or partially open - giving a free invitation to flies. As a result of this, the whole tree will be infested by flies. Then it becomes almost impossible to pluck any mango without meeting the ugly sight of flies all over the tree.
While we eagerly await the mango season, we can not enjoy the fruits for as long as we wanted. The only period we enjoy the mangoes is when the ripe mango are few on the tree such that it can't attract these flies yet.
One other final disadvantage of these trees and flowers is that they cause a lot of dirts in the compound. Here is a post I shared sometimes ago when i was sweeping the compound. So, the tress and flowers causes additional cleaning routine for us. The leaves that fall from the trees and flowers have to be cleaned up at least once in a week or every two weeks, depending on the extent to which it litters the compound.
Nevertheless, the availability of these fruits in the compound is one of my major highlights of residing in this premises. Every season I patiently anticipate the growth, maturity and ripening of the mangoes, oranges and lemons. Even though this wouldn't be my permanent residence, I cherish the green surroundings around me. Im definitely going to ensure that I have a mini garden in our house when we build one.
Before I shut down, Do you by chance know any measures we can take to get rid of the flies disturbing our mango tree? Please share in the comments.
