Hello all, hope all of you are doing fine. Apologies for the lack of updates recently in the community. The last post I shared about Carl's Junior which was located at a mall near my wife's workplace, today we came back again and visited another restaurant which is not too costly but elevates some of our simple local food to a brand new level
The Place
Nan Yang Dao
Address: 1 Vista Exchange Green, B1-11 The Star Vista, Singapore 138617
While we came back to the mall, we were actually spoilt for choices as there are many restaurants and eating place situated within this mall. We were famished and our eyes locked on Carl's Junior again which gave us a satisfying meal previously but I asked my wife to consider trying the restaurant that is beside Carl's Junior as we saw quite a crowd having their meals there and was most certain the place serves good food.
Similarly like previously mentioned, Star Vista is a mall that is located in the west of Singapore and there are ample of parking at this location and they are also equipped with electric vehicle chargers. The restaurant is brightly lit and very spacious. The internals is made of simple but classy design and it looks really clean. A very nice place to dine in and enjoy quality time over quality food.
Here's how the place looks like:
Beautiful place that is equipped with strong point of sales where food can be ordered directly from a web portal after scanning the QR code. The staff were also friendly and were prompt to bring us condiments and also serving our food. So let's get right on to the food.
The Food
Now to the main highlight of this post, the food that we ordered.
And so here's what we've ordered:
- Nanyang Berempah Nasi Lemak (Wife)
- Selayang Curry Noodles (Me)
- Iced Tea with Glass Jelly (Wife)
- Red Bean Smoothie (me)
Let's start looking at each of the food item closely as I review them
Nanyang Berempah Nasi Lemak
Nasi Lemak (Fatty Rice)is something that is very well known to locals which comes with rice that is cooked with coconut milk and served with a sunny side up egg, some anchovies and peanuts, a piece of meat (can be chicken, fish etc) and most importantly the sambal chilli paste that we typically mix it in to the rice depending on how much spiciness you can handle.
The version here served the standard side dishes but elevates the dish with a mouth watering chicken drum stick that is fried with a thin batter that contains loads of spices which is what we usually refer to as rempah. While it is ordered by my wife, she did share some of it with me so that I can share about this dish. Rice is soft and puffing with a strong fragrance of the coconut milk, the anchovies and peanut are done well with great crispiness, egg is rather standard, the drum stick to me is out of this world. Typical fried chicken drum stick is solely based on marination and a light batter to fry it. But this chicken is loaded! Because rempah which contains a whole deal of spices was mixed in with the batter and fried to perfection, the drum stick comes with a super crispy skin and packed with flavour that was introduced by the rempah and elevating that fragrance and eating experience. Sambal chilli wise is also nicely done that is spicy yet with a hint of sweetness to complete the taste.
Selayang Curry Noodles
Typical curry noodles served here is just beansprouts, some dried beancurd and some cut meat. But look at the curry noodles served here. It has so many ingredients to it which includes pork belly, dry beancurd skin, dried beancurd, fish ball, eat ball, egg, bean sprout and long beans. Everything packed into a bowl of goodness. The curry is cooked really, lightly spicy and with a small hint of sour to increase your appetite. I thoroughly enjoyed this dish and finished the whole curry. Not expensive considering the amount of ingredients added which gave the curry more dimension to its taste.
Beverage

My red bean smoothie was nicely made with no chunks of ice detected and the light red bean taste and the beans itself are nice to bite on. A rarely found drink which I like how it tasted.
For the iced tea, my wife thoroughly enjoyed it because the glass jelly added some bite to the drink and also she commented that the tea is very fragrant.
There are more interesting drinks served here which we will be looking to taste another 2 the next time we visit.
Overall:
A nice place to enjoy authentic local food that is truly elevated in terms of taste and also the choice of ingredients used t prepare the food. It is generally not expensive to dine here as the prices of each item is competitively priced. Good environment and good taste, well done in making the dishes so much more elevated that what we usually eat in the heartlands. A definite return must be planned soon.
Closing
Thank you for coming by and reading my post. I am thankful to be able to share about this amazing restaurant that serve authentic local food that is elevated but not at elevated prices. Thankful for such restaurants to start running their business and hopefully we will see more nice dishes created too!
