Kulikuli or Kuli as it is fondly called is a Nigerian snack that is popular for its crunchy feel and it is made from groundnut. It is commonly prepared by the people from the Northern part of Nigeria but nowadays some people make it in their homes. These days there are lot of cooking tutorials that take place on social media, so it is quite easy to prepare anything. This crunchy snack can be eaten just by snacking on it or combined with garri.
Some people combine it with bread, garden egg and so on. The Kulikuli turns into a peanut-like paste after chewing for a moment, so it goes down well with those food combinations. 1000090044.jpgMy favourite combination is Kulikuli and cassava flakes (garri) with some chilled water. This is a good combination in a hot afternoon especially when you need something refreshing to cool down from the intense heat.

Earlier this week, I was in the market to buy some sewing materials that i needed to complete a dress when I spotted these young women that sell Kulikuli. I decided to give it a try and they didnt disappoint me. They were freshly made, well spiced and above all crunchy. When the Kulikuli have been prepared for a long time and exposed it will lose the crunchy feel. This was a perfect way to verify if it was fresh or not. The crunchier the Kulikuli the better it is.

This snack like i said earlier is prepared by people from the Northern part of Nigeria. It is prepared by roasting groundnut and grinding it into a paste. This paste is mixed with different spices, salt, pepper, and sugar. Afterwards, the oil in the paste is carefully extracted and the paste will be formed into desired shapes and sizes. Some people form a round ball, some form a stick-like shape and others prefer an irregular shape.

The oil that was extracted from the paste is also up for sale. It can be used for cooking, frying and so on. In other words, there's nothing that is going to waste from your process of making Kulikuli. Kulikuli oil is a good source of unsaturated fats and it is highly beneficial to the heart. Not only that, it is reach in fiber which helps in digestion.

The Kulikuli I purchased will be stored in a airtight plastic food storage so that it will retain its crunchiness. It would not be nice to eat once it becomes soft due to exposure to air. It is advisable to store it properly.
