冬天不是吃冰的季節，好不容易春天來了，天氣變暖了，但是吃冰的話，好像還太早了一些，現在這種天氣，您們還會吃冰嗎？之前我就聽住在中部的朋友提過，他有一家不管天氣多冷都要吃的冰店，就是位於一中商圈附近的老店 - 一中豐仁冰，它就位於台中一中的校門口，這家老店已經傳承了三代，是在地人從小吃到大的好口味。
因為我不是在地人，所以稍稍找了一下，不算難找，就在一棟大樓的騎樓下，大樓上看起來有很多補習班，因為可以看到學生三三兩兩的上下樓，回想，我學生時代，也是放學後就要跑補習班，店家的冰品口味很簡單，基本上就是酸梅冰、牛奶冰淇淋及蜜花豆的組合變化，價位大概位三十五到五十五的區間，讓顧客吃冰的地方，就是大樓穿堂間改造而成，所以，當顧客在吃冰時，還會有行人穿過進入大樓，真是特別，牆面上貼滿了各家來採訪的媒體報導，不虧是家名店。
我當然點了所有品項都有的綜合冰，店員只有一位，是位上了年紀的婦人，應該就是老闆娘吧，可能是為了好清掃，內用也是用紙碗裝給我，份量不大不小，酸酸甜甜的酸梅冰，能讓人一口吃下去，暑氣全消，綿密的冰淇淋，口感不錯，厚實的蜜花豆，讓我有咀嚼食物的飽足感，當然它也是健康又營養，在我品嘗的當下，看到有不少客人，是外帶不內用的，也對啦，內用座位並不多，只要學生下課後，一進來消費，就會把店內所有地座位都坐滿了。
看牆面上的報導說，這家店一開始真的叫瘋人冰，因為店家一年四季都有賣，當冬天賣冰時，有人會覺得現在冷得要死還在賣冰，然後居然也有人在吃冰，所以這冰是瘋子在賣、瘋人在吃，所以才叫瘋人冰，後來取其諧音，改為豐仁冰，真是有意思，坐我後面的顧客說的居然是日語，看起來也是有觀光客過來這裡朝聖的，很多在地人吃的是情懷，但是，我個人認為，這是一家會讓人再次上門消費的店家，至少，我會。
Winter isn’t really the season for ice cream. Spring is finally here, and the weather’s getting warmer, but it still feels a bit too early to have ice cream in this kind of weather, do you still eat shaved ice? A friend of mine from central Taiwan once mentioned a shop he always goes to for shaved ice, no matter how cold it gets. It’s an old shop near the Yizhong Night Market called Yizhong Feng Ren Bing, located right by the entrance of Taichung First Senior High School. This shop has been around for three generations and is a beloved local spot that people have been enjoying since childhood.
Since I’m not a local, I had to look it up a bit, but it wasn’t hard to find. It’s tucked under the arcade of a building that seems to house a lot of cram schools. You can see students coming and going in small groups. It reminded me of my school days when I used to head straight to cram school after class. The shop’s menu is simple, with flavors like sour plum ice, milk ice cream, and honey-sweetened kidney beans, all in different combinations. Prices range from about NT$35 to NT$55. The dining area is unique, set in the building’s passageway, so as you’re enjoying your dessert, you’ll see people walking through to access the building. The walls are covered with media clippings and reviews, a testament to the shop’s reputation.
I ordered the combo ice, which includes all the available toppings. The server, an older woman who’s likely the owner, handed it to me in a paper bowl—probably for easier cleanup. The portion size was just right. The sour plum ice was tangy and refreshing, perfect for cooling you down instantly. The creamy ice cream had a smooth texture, and the honey-sweetened beans added a nice chew and a satisfying feeling of fullness. Plus, they’re healthy and nutritious. As I was eating, I noticed many customers opted for takeout, which makes sense because the seating is limited. Once school lets out, the students fill up all the seats quickly.
According to the articles on the wall, the shop was originally named Crazy People Ice because they sold shaved ice year-round, even in winter. Back then, people thought it was crazy to sell ice in freezing weather and even crazier for anyone to eat it. Hence the name Crazy People Ice. Later, they changed it to Feng Ren Bing, using a homophone of the original name. It’s a funny and clever story. The customer sitting behind me was speaking Japanese, so it seems like this shop attracts tourists too. For many locals, it’s about nostalgia, but I think this is a place worth revisiting. At least for me, I’d definitely come back.
