Merry Christmas!

Phew... it has been quite a busy past couple of days! The reason for returning back to Australia was to be surrounded by the large extended family again... and Christmas is a pretty crazy and busy time with about 30 people gathering for the Christmas Day and then also again for Boxing Day. It has meant that I've not had the chance to write anything in the previous days... as it has been a bit go go go... then drink, eat, drink... followed by sleep sleep sleep!

It means that the morning of Christmas is for the individual families, before all the big clan gets together... so, for us... that means Santa sacks for the kids. This year they also bought us both a little gift as well, and although we weren't supposed to, I snuck in one for my wife!

There was a good deal of wrapping that needed to be done in the night before... as one of the girls still believes in Santa, so we needed to keep that little charade going. Man, she was so excited in the morning! But we did tell her, that if she woke us up... we wouldn't do the presents. So, she was patiently waiting and waiting... and checking to see if we were still awake... and we were pretending to be asleep for a little bit longer!

The two girls have distinctly different present opening styles... the older is very careful, whilst the younger one just rips into them. Definitely reflects their personalities too!

The older one is now almost a teenager, and going onto high school... so, we thought that it was time for a phone for her. I'm never really shopping for phones at the low-mid range.. and so it was quite an experience researching it all... in the end, we settled on a Samsung A14 5G, all the right things were prioritised, and the right corners were cut to hit a nice 350-ish AUD price point.

So, tech setup and support for the morning... whilst helping my older one learn about all the settings on the phone, and getting some basic apps and functions set up.

And then, it was all too soon... time to get a move one to the big gathering. Lots of extra presents for the cousins and the adult santa game... so, quite a few shopping bags... with extra food and drink as well, and our families contribution to the feast! We were tasked with the dessert part... actually, more accurately, my wife was tasked with the dessert part!

Two Yule logs... now a little tradition for my wife and oldest daughter to be making together! Nice and fluffy spongy creamy cake... one of the few cakes that I do enjoy eating!

... and rounded off with a trifle and two Christmas puddings. The puddings were set on fire with brandy just after this photo to give them a nice dark crust... and then topped off with a brandy sauce.

So, the various meats and roast veggies and salads were provided by different parts of the extended family... and together with the dessert, it lasted through to the second day in terms of quantity!

So... a belated merry Christmas to everyone! Hope you had a great day... and you aren't still hungover!

Christmas lunch and dinner gatherings with "everyone" (ie whoever can make it there, sometimes the gatherings are small because the host wants it like that which was the case this year, or because a lot of people are with the other side of the family as was the cast last year, every other year it can be huge) are my favourite part.

We've had less presents as time goes by as all the kids get older and start preferring money and we finally weaned the people that were buying gifts out of obligation rather than joy off "something to open on the day".

They are pretty tiring though, hope you've got some break left in which to rest up XD

We do an extended family at the coast sort of thing... but I do find a little bit of time each day to get away rom the noise and general activity!

Hive Power Up Day - January 1st 2024

It is Christmas and getting family together creates more bonds

Merry Christmas to you and your family

... and a happy New Year to you!

These days were also exhausting for me, too much for just one day, although when help to prepare a lot of food what I enjoy the most is to eat it the next day without having to do anything else, it even tastes pure satisfaction 🤣

They are quite exhausting... so much activity and noise... I often have to duck away for a little bit!
