Another Car Crash, Greenhouse Plastic, Bird Cam, Co-op, Fire, Grilling, Buckaroo Banzai - Friday

in Homesteadinglast year

It happened again. Seriously crazy to have the 3rd car crash happen within 100 yards of each other within a week. This time I heard the crash as I sat writing my post about 6:30 yesterday morning. I went out to look closer to 7am. The gist is that the truck towing a dual axle flatbed trailer had pulled into the median heading towards our side of the highway. He left the trailer sitting out in the south bound left lane and a car plowed headlong into the trailer. The impact spun the truck and trailer which hit the front of a car in the northbound lanes. The truck and trailer ended up back on the side they had come from while the car was demolished in the median.

When I got out to the end of the road to see they had the person from the car on the stretcher and were wheeling them to the ambulance.

This was all at rush hour in the morning. The boys and I were able to get across the highway to get them to school and we drove by the truck and trailer which is there behind the car in front of the WSP truck. The trailer looked amazingly good since the car t-boned into the dual axles which were WAY stronger than the rest of the trailer. The driver of the truck and trailer is being charged for the incident. The link to the news article is below. This pic I got on my way home and the tow truck was just coming up to take it away. Interestingly the DOT crew was out quickly to replace the signage which is rare as it has taken years before some signs have been reinstalled after crashes.

After all the excitement of the morning I got some chores done like washing my clothes before I made it out to the greenhouse to do some more work on the plastic. I unrolled the old plastic and cut a section off the end.

I hauled it inside and laid it out before cutting it to width.

I managed to get it clipped up with the overhead plastic on the end but it didn't close it in very well. I need to re-seat it today and then fasten the edges all together. I'm not very happy with it all but am trying to make it work.

On the deck I have a bag of dried sunflowers from the years and I decided to toss a couple out on the table for the birds to work on. The chickadees have been working hard on them and I decided to setup my camera to get a shot of one. At first they ignored the sunflowers but I turned the camera off and walked away for a while to let them get used to it. After a while I went and turned it on and right away got this bird landing.

Azure Co-op is changing the delivery time to early afternoon now which meant it was right when I had to pick the boys up from school. Thankfully our driver is cool with the slight delay. We are the last stop he has or near last stop so his mood is generally good since he gets to go home next. Our meeting spot has the wonderful lake to contend with each year. With it so warm it is a full lake now where most winters it is a skating rink.

The boys had a blast skipping rocks across the waters as I got our boxes loaded up in the truck.

@stryeyz got home from work early and then continued work at home. I got the fire going in the pit in the early afternoon and kept it fed through the evening.

I'm stoked my Dad got the dart board and darts so will be getting it mounted this weekend so he can start throwing again. I'm looking into the PDC scoring app which is a subscription based app but it will allow us to play matches together and also can lead to leagues, especially for the boys.

I had downloaded the movie the other night so it was time for the boys to see The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension which had an insane cast of people. It is a REALLY silly 80s movie.

The boys managed to get the potatoes cut up and in the oven so I was able to get the burgers on to grill.

The buns went on to toast at the end for a little treat.

Got out to soak for a while and made it a little past the normal hour.

Rain this morning and no snow yet though it is trying. Today I've got to keep on the greenhouse plastic, I need to make more tortillas, daily darts practice, other lessons, cleaning, organizing, staying out of the weather, then fire tonight and grilling again for dinner.

OH man, I haven't thought about John Smallberries in ages!!!!!!!!!!

Another wreck! Jeez!

Nice job on wrangling all that plastic.

It's crazy the swarm of wrecks. I can't remember this happening in the 15 years we have lived here. Hence why I am going to be a bit more cautious/aware driving for a bit.

Yeah, folks in general seem a bit addled of late so maybe that has something to do with it. Crazy times and all that jazz.

I agree with the being more cautious and aware!

That’s crazy
If I could remember, you complained about some crashes and I think they were two
Am I right?

That is very peculiar to have so many accidents in such close proximity. I don't blame you for being extra cautious now. Nice that you are making such good progress on the greenhouse. I started some onion seeds yesterday, maybe a bit early but, I thought why not!
