I actually slept a bit later yesterday morning so wasn't out of the house until 5:30am and it was all of 16F. I stopped into the greenhouse to check and the temp was at 33F and all the seedlings looked just fine.
It was a clear cloudless morning hence the cold temps. As per the normal for this early there was little traffic on the road either direction.
I got the the first brewery and had 4 barrels to load onto the trailer. They had been sitting a bit so had frozen some.
The icicle on the drain chain was pretty cool looking.
All 4 barrels loaded onto the trailer with the predawn light showing to the east.
I then went downtown to the Steam Plant where this time there was 6 homeless under the overpass under "bedding".
It was just a drop-off of empties so it was only a quick stop before heading for home.
It's been a few months since I was out late enough getting grain to see the dawn.
I had half a tank but still stopped to top off the gas in the truck.
It wasn't until after 9am when I went to empty the barrels. It was still below freezing which helped as I was able to back the trailer into the sheep pen without it burying the wheels and axle in the muck. All 4 barrels got shoveled out into the pen where the sheep and alpaca dove in before I even had the first barrel emptied. I have to throw shovels full towards them to keep them from invading my working space. When I let the birds out I pointed them to the grain and they soon were wading through it amongst the animal legs.
Midday I spent time inside getting chores done. My clothes needed washing so I got them run, dried, and put away.
Then I finally bagged up my bud from this year that had been in paper bags. I finally got it all in to plastic bags and put away.
J has the Young Future Chefs competition coming up and he has his recipe he wants to submit. Shrimp Seviche Quesadilla on home made tortillas. It will be a killer thing for him to make and he has gotten good at the tortillas so it will go over quite well I suspect.
It was after 5pm when I got the fire going in the pit for the evening.
UFC 298 was on so I had that on for the evening. It was near 6:30 when I got the burgers on to grill. This time I did straight bison instead of the mix for a bit of a change.
I toasted the buns after the meat was cooked.
I need to find a sports betting site for the UFC that I can bet sats. I'm about 80% on calling the winner of fights after watching them both walk in. When the fighter walks out into the arena and the crowd, the look in their eyes and on their faces is VERY telling of who will win the bout. Until it gets to the top level fighters who are generally VERY evenly matched where I start to falter. But all the early prelims and prelims are ripe for this technique.
After watching Volks get knocked the hell out and lose the belt we went out to soak for a while.
Today it is trying to snow but is just light barely visible flakes as the storm passes to the south of us. Man Utd play in a while, I'll get the animals fresh water later this morning, the NHL stadium series continues at noon, I'll work on cleaning around the house, then this evening I will get a fire going in the pit and will grill something for dinner.
