Went out to harvest in the morning yesterday and got a few squash that went to the cooler.
The turkeys are assholes. Some refuse to go in the coop and something is coming and picking them off at night. One was hit and left in the middle of the farm.
Where it got picked at by the other birds and ravens.
A nice handful of cucumbers from the greenhouse went into the house.
The beans had a couple pounds from the meager couple of rows. I'm fine with the minimal beans this year compared to the prior years.
Then I headed down to my IFS appointment which is doing me well each week. I was back well before noon and by noon was in the potato garden digging the next row. It gave me 18.5 pounds of yellows which got washed and laid out to dry on the deck.
With it a cooler day in the low 80s F I packed up all my tubs and my spud fork and headed to the upper garden. It was a SUPREME mess as I have not been up there much this year. The weeds had taken over each spot and made finding the spots a bit tricky. I pulled all the plants from the first 4 rows and pulled any potatoes from them before tossing the plants in the bed of my truck.
So many thousands of ear wigs were EVERYWHERE. And the little fuckers bite as I found out on my legs a few times.
I dug the 4 rows which was 20 spots and the potatoes went to the tubs. Then I pulled all the plants from the next 4 rows and pulled the plastic back before digging the last 20 spots.
These 4 tubs are from 40 spots and weighed in at 182 pounds total and 201 pounds for the day. In 15 days I have dug 602 pounds of potatoes.
The plastic got drug back over the empty spots and weighed down. I only have a few rows growing now since all but one melon didn't make the frost.
Back on the farm I dropped the tubs on the deck before emptying the plants to the mulch pile as the sheep can't eat the potato greens. Being grungy I headed down to the creek to cool off and clean up a bit.
I had to sort the potatoes from the tubs to the baskets for washing and I wanted the biggest first.
I laid them on the table to dry where they will get shifted to boxes today.
After the chicks got decimated a couple had survived and bolted for cover and we didn't see them until yesterday evening. They managed to catch the one which was all kinds of happy to be nestled. We got it to the brooder again after a bunch of fixing.
I headed out to soak but got only about 15 minutes before I was falling asleep and headed for bed.
Not sure yet what today holds. @stryeyz is off and we are likely to do something, maybe go up to the lake for kayaking and fishing. I always have more to do around the farm as there are 3 more rows of potatoes to dig.
