I've not had crème brûlée before despite seeing it on many dessert menus. There were more appealing options that won out in the competition for my attention. It wasn't until recently when I visited my parents that I got a chance to try it.
They had picked this up from Costco on a whim. They never cease to amaze me at what they carry. I decided to give it a try.
The topping came in a separate pouch that you tear open and sprinkle over the top. The container is made of glass, so you can use a torch on it without any issues.
I didn't do the greatest job evenly spreading out the topping, but it was "good enough for government work," as the saying goes.
It was pretty tasty. It reminded me of egg custard, but thicker and creamier, and without the nutmeg. The crunchiness and extra sweetness from the topping made it even better. While it's still not at the top of my list for favorite desserts, it was nice to try it to at least say I've had it. Now I'll have to keep an eye out to see if anyone offers creative flavor variations for this dessert. 😁
