Ingredients for the dough:
- 900 g flour
- 1 bag of dry yeast (7g)
- 2 egg whites (we will use the egg yolk for covering)
- 400 ml of warm milk
- 180 ml of oil
- 1 spoon of sugar
- 1 teaspoon of salt
First prepare the liquid ingredients. In a deep bowl, mix warm milk, sugar, oil and two egg whites. Then add dry yeast. Wait a little, then slowly add salt and the flour.
Knead a smooth dough. The dough will be very soft.
The dough should be left to rise for about two hours. Honestly, I never wait that long because the kids can't wait to be done. The dough is more perfect if you wait, but it's perfectly soft even after the 45 minutes I waited for the dough to rise.
Oil the bowl in which you will put the dough. When you put it in the bowl, oil the dough as well. Of course, while the dough is rising, it must be covered.
When the dough has risen, knead it again.
I first divided it into two parts. One part for savory hot dog rolls and the other for sweet buns.
Hot dog rolls
I cooked 12 hot dogs. That's why I divided the first half of the dough into 12 equal parts.
Roll out the dough into a rectangle, put a hot dog on one end, and cut the other end into strips with a pizza cutter, but not to the edge. Look at the picture.
You can put mustard on top of hot dogs, it's delicious. My kids don't like mustard, so I didn't put it. Coat the hot dog roll with egg yolk and sprinkle with sesame seeds. I always have sesame in the house, but this time I ran out of it. :)
Bake in a preheated oven at 200 degrees for about twenty minutes.
Sweet buns with jam
When I make cakes with jam, I always use homemade, well cooked. Every other one spills on my baking tray. This time I used homemade plum jam.
The rolling procedure is the same as for the hot dog roll. I put the jam on one end, cut the other end, but I slightly bent them into a semicircle. Make sure that the jam is well rolled, so that it does not spill.
After baking at about 200 degrees, the buns are ready. Sprinkle them with powdered sugar.
If you like pastries, this dough recipe is for you. It's too soft, trust me. Hot dog rolls are still fresh and soft the next day. Mine never see tomorrow. :)
Until next time...
With love,
Snežana
