Spice it up I say - give me a fragrant, spicy, and absolutely delicious curry any day of the week. It can be a vegan, vegetarian, fish, or meat curry, as long as it fits the flavour profile.
Best served with garlic Naan bread, Roti or Basmati rice, pickles, and sambals.
Cooking from Cans - yucky or not?
I don't like cooking from cans, but I make an exception when using beans or pulses. This Chickpea Curry is one of the quickest dishes to make. The Naan bread took a little longer, but you can always buy ready dough from your local bakery, although they're not always obliging!

Takeaway food
Takeaway food also doesn't appeal much except that it's super handy when busy. However, a local Indian takeaway called the Curry-O's who has won several awards for their Bunny Chow, are an exception. They also make my favourite, Broad Bean Roti rolls - saucy, aromatic, and yummy!

Restaurants
When I eat out and there's Prawn Curry on the menu, I find it difficult to choose anything else! We celebrated my big seven birthday with friends at an authentic Indian Restaurant - hubby ordered a creamy Chicken & Prawn Curry, and this time I chose something different, the Lamb Curry Rogan Josh, which is a stronger tomato-based curry with an aromatic gravy made with cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, and bay leaves. It was divine, and a very special evening!
I'll always be thankful to our friends who invited us on the spur of the moment the night after my birthday; we had a small celebration the day before at my brother's home, so it was a double celebration.
Little did I know then that hubby would be gone a mere two months later!

From Spices to the Ocean
Home-cooking
I love fish in any form; these are Prawn Fishcakes with a crunchy Oats coating that I made one year for a Christmas lunch.

We have an annual natural phenomenon in Kwazulu Natal called the Sardine Run, when billions of these little silvery fish migrate from the icy Cape waters to the warmer Indian Ocean.
Marinated and fried till crispy, absolutely delicious, and it's easily obtainable from the seine netters.

I love a thick Vegetable Soup using Lentils or Split Peas as a base. Three must-have vegetables are Potatoes, Carrots, and Onions or Leeks. I add any other veggies on hand, grate or place them in the food processor, and sometimes add leftover roast chicken.

My favourite comfort food is Cottage Pie - made with a savoury ground beef, topped with creamy mashed potatoes, and baked in the oven. Served with my favourite veggies, creamed Spinach, and Corn on the cob, this is comfort food at its best!

Dessert
All my friends know me and my sweet tooth!
Pavlovas - featherlight, melt-in-the-mouth Meringues, filled with whipped cream and topped with berries of every kind, have become a regular request from my family for any special occasion. I'm only too happy to oblige as I get to taste test!

Finally ending off with another of my favourites, a tropical Fruit Salad, always best when Papayas and Mangoes are in season.

I've photo-bombed you with enough tempting food, and have a ton more to share as I love cooking, baking, and of course, eating, many different kinds of food, but I will stop here!
If you're hungry after reading/looking at all this food, blame it on Memoir Monday and @ericvancewalton who asked - What are your favorite dishes—either to cook or to eat?
Supper tonight was easy - I made a big pot of Lamb Curry when my son and his girlfriend were visiting and froze the leftovers. No cooking tonight, I just popped it in the microwave, made a salad, and dinner was done!
BON APPETIT FRIENDS!
