In the last week of August, on Friday, there was once again a stir in our office about going out for lunch. I feel like my office friends are starting to enjoy the routine where I initially refuse, they push me, and in the end, I give in. However, this time, they didn’t have to insist much because, on the last Friday of August, everyone was a bit tight on money for lunch. So, everyone agreed to eat at a local restaurant instead of a lavish, expensive one after a long time.

The restaurant we chose was about 2 kilometers from the office, and after Friday prayers, six of us went on three bikes to have lunch. The restaurant’s name was “Bismillah Pappu Lahori Hotel,” which is quite an odd name. But the place was clean, especially compared to other local restaurants. Typically, local places aren’t very hygienic, but they have a distinct advantage – the food tastes great.

We ordered daal mash, chicken curry, and anda gotala. One of the special things about local restaurants is their hot naan and the way they serve. The waiter made sure we had everything we needed and delivered everything promptly. The food, no doubt, was delicious, especially with the hot naan. The fresh salad added to the experience. Another thing about local spots is that if you run out of curry, they give you free gravy refills. We took advantage of this three times because we were all very hungry, and we ate a lot.

After eating all that, we also had cold drinks, and the total per person was only 250 rupees. Amazing! This is exactly what I like – a full meal for very little money. If we had eaten the same meal at a fancier restaurant, it would’ve cost at least 1000 rupees per person. We happily paid the bill and headed back to the office. After a long time, we managed to eat a good meal for just 250 rupees per person, but I fear that next time, these guys will come up with some wild plan. Let’s hope for the best!
