Who doesn’t love watching Korean dramas and idolizing K-pop groups? The Philippines is one of the countries that loves all of these. Under the influence of both, Filipinos have started to love and explore eating Korean food. Wherever you go in the Philippines you will always see and find Korean restaurants “Unlimited Samgyupsal” known as Korean BBQ.
Korean BBQ is one of the best sellers on the menus of all Korean restaurants that we have eaten. How to eat Samgyupsal? A lot of people asked me that. First, you need to grill the pork belly. Choose some lettuce leaves or perilla leaves for wrapping. You need to add “ssamjang”, it’s a Korean bean paste mixed with other flavors. Add other side dishes including kimchi, garlic, and chili peppers it all depends on your preference. Fold the lettuce or perilla leaves around the meat, ssamjang, and other side dishes, and put the lettuce wrap all at once in your mouth. We usually eat “Samgyupsal” with white rice.
Every time we go to a Korean restaurant to dine, it’s always a feast. For a spicy food lover like me, it’s always a place of comfort especially if you are living far away from home. Korean food treats my feeling of homesickness and makes me feel closest to home all the time. Kimchi-jjigae or Korean stew and Bibimbap or a Korean staple which is a bowl of warm rice topped with various ingredients are my favorites.
Tteokbokki is very popular too. If you are watching Korean Dramas you can seldom see this selling on the streets of Korea, this is one of their famous “Street food”. The English name for tteokbokki is “Spicy rice cakes”. It’s so delicious that once you start eating it you cannot stop, that's how addicting it is. As a Filipino, trying cuisines from different countries opens my palate to a greater variety of food and their unique flavors. It’s best to try different cuisines from other countries because it makes you appreciate that country's culture more, and you will get to know more people from all walks of life.
