Gone were the days when we didn’t have the issue of unemployment being a major problem across the globe. But, after the Covid 19 pandemic hit the world, so much changed and so many people ended up losing their jobs thereby affecting the global unemployment rate.
I grew up in a family of business. My mom is a business women and it’s the same with almost all my aunties and other family members. Growing up, I saw how my mom hustled everyday and it was all for us. It’s not that we weren’t comfortable, we were , but you know as a parent you always have to plan ahead for your kids future. Being a smart kid, I grew up helping my mom with her business and that made me develop the passion for it while picking up a few things here and there.
I started my entrepreneurial journey around high school but I took it more seriously when I got into the university. The good thing was that, I got my parents to invest in my business on the basis that it should be successful and it was. That was the turning point in entrepreneurial journey. It pushed me to do better for myself and venture into different fields. I would say, there’s nothing I haven’t done that has to do with entrepreneurship before. Hell, I can even sell air in bottle to you and you’d buy.😂
I think my parents are starting to worry so much about me because I invest so much time in what I do and this journey of mine involves a lot of travelling. I enjoy travelling and so any project that involves travelling, you have me there. A few days ago, I had the opportunity to join a group of entrepreneurs on a market research project where we payed a visit to various businesses across the northern zone of Ghana.
The first thing that caught my attention was the fact that all these businesses were owned by females and this motivated me very much. We first made our way to AMAATI COMPANY in Yendi. I haven’t been to Yendi before and I thought it was actually a village but it wasn’t. Surprise surprise!
For a minute , I thought this company was a rice processing company but then I was very wrong. They were actually into Fonio processing. You’re wondering what Fonio is , right? I really don’t know how to explain it to you as that was also my first time hearing of it but let me give it a shot.😅 In simple terms, it’s a cereal with so many nutritional benefits. It can be eaten raw, in the form of porridge or even swallow.
From there we made our way to the YUMZAA SHEA BUTTER PROCESSING CENTER. I worked on a Shea butter project somewhere in 2021 but then this was my first time of actually being to a Shea processing company. Believe me when I tell you this whole process wasn’t an easy one. There were so many processes involved and I started to wonder how long it took people who did this manually.
I love Shea butter so much because it’s good for the skin. But then, I had a very bad encounter with one sample of Shea butter I bought a while back. It was of very low quality it got me so so mad. Incase you didn’t know, there are actually grades of Shea butter ranging from grade A-E. Actually, grade A Shea butter is very hard to come by as it’s mostly exported to other countries. So, anytime you go to purchase Shea butter, make sure you’re not buying a lower grade.
The journey didn’t stop there, we went ahead to visit some other places but I wouldn’t want to bore you with all of that. I hope you learnt something new from me today on this journey. Enjoy the rest of your day.😅
