The Saturday market in Wells is a market of my dreams in Australia. I'd go there every week if I lived here. There's just so much tasty food, all right next to the Bishop's Palace. Can you guess what the balls are below? No prizes if you're English, but if you're not, have a guess in the comments below.

In fact, just as a quick diversion before we get to the proper tasty food of the market, let's have a quick hello to the moat, the castle and the baby swans behind. The castle is 13th century I think, back when moats were the fashion. I mean, if I had a moat, I think my life would be complete. I'd put dragons in mine.

How huge - and very old - is this door! Well offers a lot of history. Check out this post on the Wells cathedral by @livinginuktaiwan. I've always seen the cathedral from the outside and seeing this post on Pinmapple reminded me that I really must go INSIDE the cathedral one of these days. We're only 20 minutes from this city and Jamie's Mum's boyfriend lives there, so we often go when we're in the UK.
Back to the market then. Delicous olives. We spent ages talking to the guy who had what they're calling the 100 day cough around here. We suggested mullein. I guess it's some kind of long COVID. I hope it works out for him and I hope he gets it! We then had to get some sourdough as well.

The hummous looked next level. She'd created various blends, including with fresh coriander & paprika oil, roasted garlic & smoked paprika, or with turmeric, fenugreek & ginger, or scotch bonnet chillies! She also had one where she'd smoked the chickpeas over applewood and then blended that with cider - wow!
Another thing we'd missed in Australia is good cheese. Somerset cheese is amazing. We bought a shropshire blue but damn, there was a few I really loved like applewood smoked cheddar.

England do some pretty awesome pies. At the pub you can get a pie, mash and gravy which I find wierd as there is usually a kind of gravy in the pie. Plenty of vegetarian options too. Lucky we aren't drinking or we may have bought the honey mead as well. I'll skip on past the fennel and cider chorizo and the smoked duck, the fish stall and the various meat stalls. Honestly though, you could do almost your entire week's shop here.

Although I didn't buy anything at this stall, I spent a good deal of time talking to the guy behind this stall, which sold mushroom tinctures and mushroom chocolate and a cacao blend. Super cool. Like all mushroom people, he was super enthused about his product, and the stall was fantastic with large oyster mushrooms, lion's mane, reishi and horsetail on display.

Honestly we were there for ages but didn't spend too much - just some things for a cheese platter. It's on every Saturday so we can always go back.
On the way home we also went past a vegetable farm shop that does amazing fresh vegetables - beats plastic wrapped stuff at Tesco!
