Just a few more hours until the end of this year 2023... The last few days haven't exactly been exciting, like every year at this time the flu hits some of us and my son had a bit of a fever for about 4-5 days , sore throat and stomach ache and he bothered us quite a bit with his tantrums and some nocturnal awakenings... But today his health conditions finally improved and we decided to walk around the center of the city of Bari.
Like all large historic cities, the city is surrounded by large stone walls, the aim obviously being to protect itself both from attacks from the sea, being a maritime city, and from the land. Today it is possible to walk peacefully on the city walls and enjoy the wonderful panorama just a few steps from the sea. Despite the annoying humidity, the walk is truly a pleasure, the sea is a flat table and the boats offshore take advantage of the sea conditions for some offshore excursions.
Even the seagulls are relaxed and allow themselves to be photographed a few steps away, with decidedly bizarre poses. Where the lookout towers of the city walls are located, large spaces have been created in which tourists can relax and admire the sea on one side or the wonderful facades of the historic center, particularly embellished after impeccable restorations.
You can't walk through the historic center and not be fascinated by the beauty of the sea. The coast has been protected with breakwaters to prevent sea waves from damaging the shore during storm surges. Today, however, the sea is beautiful, the humidity makes it impossible to distinguish the horizon and sky and earth seem to be one.
During the Christmas period, a scent of onions and frying abounds in the streets, culinary traditions are always respected and the happiness of the people who taste them is visible on their faces. There are many restaurants, pizzerias or simple takeaways that are literally full of followers of good food!
The Christmas climate has greatly changed the appearance of the city, everywhere there are colored lights or installations of Santa Claus, reindeer, comets... It is really pleasant to observe the shop windows decorated for the holidays, the madness still haunts the shops looking for gifts that have not yet been purchased, even though Christmas is now over.
These are the rhythms of the great metros: on the one hand the fascinating history and art, on the other the shopping and drinks at the trendiest American bars! Happy 2024 to all of you, dear friends!
