Matcha latte has become quite a popular drink in the last years and although yes, it might be just a trend, matcha also provides great nutritional benefits when consumed in moderation.
Matcha can result in better mood, energy and potential benefits like weight loss, heart health, lower blood pressure and much more. However, for me it's just a nice ritual to have matcha latte once in a while as it feels more special than just having a tea or a coffee and it does taste great.
If you want to make matcha in a really authentic way, you can buy those special matcha sets which include a special bowl and a whisk. If you don't have them - I am all up for minimalism and if you just want to simply have matcha latte, I'm sure you already have everything at home!
I don't own any special equipment for making matcha latte and although it is highly recommended to whisk it with a special whisk - I don't believe that there is any big difference in taste by doing that.
So, I am sharing just a quick, simple way how to make matcha without any special equipment π΅
You will need:
For 1 portion
- 1 teaspoon of matcha tea powder
- 200 ml. plant-based milk (sweetened almond milk is used in the recipe)
- 50 ml. hot water
- 1-2 teaspoons of maple syrup or other sweetener (optional)
Preparation
- Pour the matcha powder in a glass, and pour 50 ml. hot water on top of it.
- Mix matcha tea powder well with hot water until foamy. This can be done with a special matcha whisk, or if you don't have one - with an electric blender or other available device/tool, even a fork will do if you don't have anything else. I used a small milk frother.
- Pour the plant-based milk in a pot and put it on the stove, heating for about 2-4 minutes so that it is hot, but not yet boiling. I used sweetened almond milk, so no additional sweetener was needed, but you can add maple syrup or other sweetener. Other milks can also be used - coconut and oat are great here.
- Pour the matcha mixture into the heated milk and mix in a cup.
I love to have this drink when I want some dessert but am not yet really hungry, because it is more calorically dense than simply tea. And it's a very cozy drink to read a book with or simply take some time for yourself in peace and enjoy the matcha π
Enjoy!
