Welcome to the small city of simple comfort food - Ipoh
It has been very common when you ask about many Malaysians who came from the North of Peninsular, Ipoh is one of the stops where you need to visit if you are craving for good food outside fancy restaurants.
Since 2017 the tiny capital city of the State of Perak, approximately 220 km (136 miles) away from the capital city of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur, has been invading the Trip Advisor for their tourism campaign.
But most of the Trip Advisor dishes are centered in the city center; while this tiny little restaurant that cooks simple comfort yummy food, is a little 3 miles off from the city center.
If it was not for my cousin's recommendation to have a get together there, I wouldn't have known about it.
Especially it isn't very big and probably could only serve about 20 tables at a time.
Behold, this is one of the restaurants signature dishes. Sweet by the honey, and glazed with dark sauce will draw much rice to your appetite.
During our time there they were having a local prawn promotion. This plate of juicy buttery sauted prawns cost less than USD 4.
This is one of the most traditional traditioan Chinese cooking in Malaysia that the chefs there are proud of: The super soft and smooth steamed egg.
Without the soy sauce you would have thought it looked like light yellow tofu; but this is with precise timing of the steaming that create the super soft and smooth sensation in your mouth when you slurp it!
When you have a Chinese get together meal, vegetables is a must, and most of the time, long beans and brinjal (eggplant) stir fry is very common for Ipoh locals. Some of them like to add in with pickled Chinese sweet-salty radish with a bit of chili with soy sauce.
If you ever have a chance to visit Ipoh, this is definitely a place you can look forward to.
