Cherry Popsicle Day + Día de la paleta de cereza [Eng+Spa]

Hello everyone, on a rainy Monday. My day started late, for some reason I don't understand, I'm a little low on energy. In fact, I'm sleeping a lot more hours a day than I normally would. My brother says that I might be sleeping too late, so now it's taking its toll on me.

The weather is making my body feel heavy too, and the rain is accentuating the pain in my joints, but not to an unbearable degree. So (despite everything) I can say that I'm fine. I'm worried that the rain will cause the power to fail again, so I'm going to log the day while I still can.

To do so, I want to comment on a #food anniversary that I found interesting: Today is Cherry Popsicle Day.

It's a celebration for a type of water ice pop, which has a wooden stick inserted to hold it. In several countries it is known as #popsicle (or polo), and it turns out that more than a generic noun, this word is actually a registered trademark. It is the case that it became so popular that the name of the brand became (by default) the name that people give to all products of that same type.

The origin of the celebration, as I read, has to do with the creation of the first commercial presentations of this type of flavored water ice cream. At the beginning, it seems that everything was an accident, in a freezing climate, a boy (accidentally) left a container with a soft drink prepared from instant powder and water. The next day, when he discovered his forgetfulness, he found that he had created the first flavored ice pop.

But, he waited for almost 20 years to think again about this creation and patented it, starting to sell it at the Neptune Beach amusement park (Belmar, New Jersey - USA).

Actually, it seems that the invention was in winter, but the creator understood that this product was more suitable to be made (and sold) during the summer. I suppose that, in this sense, he followed the same logic as the creator of Iced Tea.

I did not find many references about the whole story, but I could understand that it is a day of celebration that is currently National Day in the United States, but it seems that it has not been internationalized yet.

By the way, in 2000 there was a song that has a name that fits well with today's celebration, it is "Cherry Popsicle", sung by Jann Arden, on the album Blood Red Cherry. It is a soft and romantic pop style. I liked the way it sounded, so I am going to share it:

Para ello, quiero comentar sobre una efeméride de #comida que me pareció interesante: Hoy es el Día de la Paleta de Cereza.

Es una celebración para un tipo de helado de agua, que tiene inserto una paleta de madera para sostenerla. En varios países se le conoce como popsicle (o polo), y resulta que más que un sustantivo genérico, esta palabra es en realidad una marca registrada. Es el caso de que se volvió tan popular que el nombre de la marca se convirtió (por defecto) en el nombre que la gente le da a todos los productos de ese mismo tipo.

El origen de la celebración, según leí, tiene que ver con la creación de las primeras presentaciones comerciales de este tipo de helado de agua saborizada. Al inicio, parece que todo fue un accidente, en un clima helado, un chico dejó (accidentalmente) un envase con un refresco preparado a partir de polvo instantáneo y agua. Al Día siguiente, cuando descubrió su olvido, encontró que había creado la primera paleta helada saborizada.

Pero, esperó por casi 20 años para pensar de nuevo en esta creación y la patentó. Comenzando a venderla en el parque de atracciones Neptune Beach (Belmar, New Jersey).

En realidad, parece que el invento fue en un invierno, pero el creador entendía que este producto era más bien adecuado para hacerlo (y venderlo) durante el verano. Supongo que, en este sentido, siguió la misma lógica que el creador del Te Helado.

No encontré muchas referencias sobre toda la historia, pero sí pude entender que es un día de celebración que actualmente es Día Nacional en Estados Unidos, pero parece que no se ha internacionalizado aún.
