A Home Recipe For Tofu With Green Tomatoes And Fragnant Leaves

I always tell you, never get bored with tofu recipes. It's like a potato recipe that is everywhere. Tofu is a cheap, nutritious ingredient that is relied on to meet protein needs, especially as a substitute for animal protein.

In fact, tofu is indeed helpful for housewives who want to prepare easy-to-make home recipes. Like this time, I made a dish with an easy-to-make tofu menu. Only stir-frying method and it doesn't take long to cook this food.

Tofu, with green tomatoes, and also kaffir lime leaves. This combination will create a fresh taste and delicious aroma. Because green tomatoes contain a little authentic acid. Meanwhile, if red tomatoes or ripe tomatoes will actually add a lot of water to the overall cooking results, also ripe tomatoes do not have a crunchy texture.

I like the texture of green tomatoes, so I think it is suitable to be combined with soft-textured tofu.

Meanwhile, I intentionally added kaffir lime leaves to add a strong citrus aroma and taste. Usually, kaffir lime leaves are also popularly added to several rice variants to enhance the aroma of the rice to be delicious. That's why kaffir lime plants are usually planted in people's homes here, because kaffir lime leaves are often used to cook home recipes.

I will tell you what if you can't find kaffir lime leaves. Another suitable leaf to replace kaffir lime leaves is basil. Indeed, both have different fragrant characters but both types of leaves will add a delicious taste to food.

In my opinion, indeed, kaffir lime leaves have a stronger taste, similar to lemon zest. So, it might be natural if not everyone can like it. Meanwhile, in my family members, we all like kaffir lime leaves including my husband. So, I don't need to bother replacing kaffir lime leaves with other types of leaves for your cooking.

Speaking of kaffir lime leaves, I used 7 large kaffir lime leaves. The shape of the kaffir lime leaves is very unique, like an unbroken number 8. Meanwhile, in the middle of the kaffir lime leaves there are leaf veins that must be removed, so that the texture of the kaffir lime leaves is comfortable and delicious to eat after being cooked. And it doesn't bother at all.

The spices are of course very simple, only the spices that are usually used for stir-frying food. Shallots, garlic. If you are not used to using shallots, then you can use onions as is generally used in cooking.

One more thing, I use devil chilies instead of red chilies. I don't want to waste money buying red chilies because for me and for my husband, red chilies are less spicy than devil chilies. So I chose to add 10 devil chilies to this tofu recipe.

THE INGREDIENTS

  • 250 grams of tofu
  • 4 green tomatoes
  • 7 kaffir lime leaves
  • 5 cloves of garlic
  • 5 cloves of shallots
  • 1/2 tsp of salt
  • 1/2 tsp of sugar
  • a little water
  • optional: Chillies

My version of this tofu recipe can be for 2 servings, and I serve it with rice, for dinner. Because it does taste spicy, it must be served with carbohydrates to create the best pairing for this dish.
