Today I had lunch at the Black Market restaurant inside the Isetan at KLCC. This is a Spanish and Red Wine restaurant that offers Asian cuisine. It has a modern and stylish design, featuring an open-concept dining area with warm lighting and contemporary furnishings. The space is bustling with diners, giving it a lively and social atmosphere. The seating consists of comfortable chairs and bar stools, and the interior incorporates sleek glass panels and decorative hanging lights for a refined look.
This time I ordered their Kakuni rice set, it cost RM33 per set with service tax included. The Kakuni Rice Set includes a bowl of braised pork belly in a dark, rich sauce, served alongside steamed white rice, miso soup, edamame, pickled vegetables, and mustard. The pork appears tender, glistening with the flavorful braising liquid, and the overall presentation is clean and appealing on a wooden tray.
Kakuni is a traditional Japanese dish that originated from Nagasaki, influenced by Chinese-style braised pork dishes. The name "kakuni" (角煮) means "square simmered," referring to the shape of the pork belly pieces. The dish is slow-cooked in soy sauce, sake, mirin, and sugar until the meat becomes tender and flavorful. It was historically enjoyed by samurai and merchants and remains a popular comfort food in Japan today.
