A delicious and soothing steamed Seabass at The Original Taste hawker stall

in GEMSlast year

Last night’s food trip gave me a hiccup. I now learned a new lesson, never eat something very heavy at midnight because it will result in indigestion issues. The young ones may not have this kind of issue. Since I’m not that young anymore my enzymes are not as much as when I was younger. I must be mindful of my next food trip.

This lunch is mostly about eating simple and healthy food. The ones that are light and easier to digest while having a good amount of nutrition. I went to The Original Taste Teochew hawker stall at Crawford Road to have nice and simple food. Arriving at the food place with a very specific reason feels like going to a clinic, to feel better. Writing my post about it sounds funny now that I’m already feeling better.

Chinese cuisine has that kind of effect, a healing or soothing effect. Every time I have minor health issues, I often to a Chinese restaurant or food place in search of comfort or relief. I seldom go to a clinic to get a pill or medication because I feel like eating Chinese-cooked food can already relieve most of those issues. For example, whenever I feel cold or have symptoms of flu then I will simply eat dumpling soup or drink soup with Chinese herbs in it. I would feel better afterward which is an amazing thing to happen just by simply eating nice food.

To relieve my indigestion issue today, I got myself what I could label as “soft food”, steamed Seabass, and sauteed Tofu!

Both dishes are light and easy to chew and digest. The steamed fish is also garnished with pickled cabbage which is a good source of dietary fibers and vitamins as well. The tanginess of the pickle juice also adds freshness to the fish which makes it taste even better. The pickled vegetables complement the steamed fish.

I like going back to this stall because of the wide selection of seafood dishes. If I was feeling well today then I could have ordered these giant prawns right away. The affordability of their dishes also encourages me to keep coming back to this place. I wonder where they get the supply considering that Singapore doesn't have its fisheries to grow these seafood. Anyway, it's good that I can find a place like The Original Taste that makes good food that is also affordable.
