I.
Durante el mes de Diciembre tuve varios Momentos Foodie interesantes...ahora que lo pienso bien, fue uno por cada semana del mes. Lo cierto es que Diciembre siempre se presta para comer un poco demás, pues entre celebración y celebración siempre hay un plato navideño que se te atraviesa por delante o simplemente tu grupo de amigos te sonsacan para ir a comer en algún lugar de la ciudad. Mi primer Momento Foodie del mes de Diciembre fue en el compartir navideño que realizamos en el Centro de Química, junto a algunos profesores y profesoras del piso, tesistas y pasantes. El pedido de comida navideña se realizó en el resturante de la hermana de uno de mis amigos quién también es pasante del mismo piso, es decir, ¡él fue el responsable de la comida para el compartir!
En este compartir fue donde comí mi primer plato navideño del 2023 y, no les voy a mentir, ¡esta fue la mejor hallaca que he comido en mi vida! Yo no soy muy fanática de la hallaca, a decir verdad soy más amante del pan de jamón y el pernil navideño, pero la hallaca del restaurante de mi amigo simplemente se robó mi corazón...bueno, no sólo el mío sino también el de todos los presentes aquel día. Ese día no solo degustamos del respectivo plato navideño, pues también algunas otras personas llevaron cosas extras para compartir. Una de estas cosas extras fueron una galletitas de vainilla que tenían una decoración hermosa. Quedé fascinada con estas galletas no sólo por su aspecto, sino también por el sabor que se encontraba en el toque perfecto de dulzor (a pesar de poseer un glaseado) y porque no eran demasiado crujientes, más bien su miga era bastante suave.
During the month of December I had several interesting Foodie Moments...now that I think about it, it was one for each week of the month. The truth is that December always lends itself to eat a little too much, because between celebration and celebration there is always a Christmas dish that crosses your path or simply your group of friends coax you to go out to eat somewhere in the city. My first Foodie Moment of the month of December was in the Christmas sharing that we did in the Chemistry Center, together with some professors from the floor, thesis students and interns. The Christmas food order was placed at the restaurant of the sister of one of my friends who is also an intern of the same floor, that is to say, he was responsible for the food for the sharing!
In this sharing was where I ate my first Christmas dish of 2023 and, I'm not going to lie to you, this was the best hallaca I've ever eaten in my life! I'm not a big fan of hallaca, to tell the truth I'm more of a ham bread and Christmas pork, but the hallaca from my friend's restaurant simply stole my heart...well, not only mine but also that of all the people present that day. That day we not only tasted the respective Christmas dish, but also some other people brought extra things to share. One of these extras was a beautifully decorated vanilla cookie. I was fascinated with these cookies not only because of their appearance, but also because of the taste that was in the perfect touch of sweetness (despite having a glaze) and because they were not too crunchy, rather their crumb was quite soft.
II.
El segundo Momento Foodie de Diciembre 2023 fue en la Pizzería y Cafetería Norty para festejar con pizzas la imposición de medalla de uno de mis amigos. La verdad es que no conocía este lugar, ni siquiera sabía que existía, pero al parecer mis amigos ya lo habían visitado en otras ocasiones y les había gustado. El lugar me pareció agradable como para ir a comer cuando olvidas tu almuerzo por salir apurado de casa o para ir a tomar un café a final de tarde en un ambiente acogedor. No tomé fotografías del sitio pero me llevé unas buenas capturas de las pizzas que comimos ese día y que, por cierto, eran de masa delgada con orillas que no pasaban a convertirse en un completo fastidio. La salsa de las pizzas me gustó, es de ese tipo de salsas que descatacan por ser algo dulzonas y terminar contrastando bastante bien con el resto de ingredientes salados.
De algo sí puedo estar segura y es que quedé con ganas de visitar este lugar para probar el café y los golfeados con queso que parecen ser bastante buenos.
The second Foodie Moment of December 2023 was at Pizzería y Cafetería Norty to celebrate with pizzas the awarding of a medal to one of my friends. The truth is that I didn't know this place, I didn't even know it existed, but apparently my friends had already visited it on other occasions and liked it. The place seemed nice to me as a place to go to eat when you forget your lunch because you leave home in a hurry or to go for a coffee in the late afternoon in a cozy atmosphere. I didn't take pictures of the place but I took some nice captures of the pizzas we ate that day, which, by the way, were thin crust with edges that didn't turn into a complete nuisance. I liked the sauce on the pizzas, it is one of those sauces that stand out for being a bit sweet and end up contrasting quite well with the rest of the salty ingredients.
I can be sure of one thing, and that is that I wanted to visit this place to try the coffee and the cheesy treats, which seem to be quite good.
III.
El día que fui a ver la función de El Cascanueces junto a mi novio tuve el Tercer Momento Foodie del mes. Ese día probamos el café de la Cafetería de la Librería del Sur Aquiles Nazoa que se encuentra dentro del Teatro Teresa Carreño. También probamos unas galletitas y una porción de torta de chocolate que nos tentó desde el primer momento en que la vimos. Lo realmente divino de aquella porción de torta era su cubierta de sabor intenso a avellana. La miga en sí estaba muy suave y esponjosa, pero le hacía falta un sabor más potente a cacao. El espacio me resultó agradable y muy asthetic, la decoración era muy minimalista e incluso tenían un espacio para los niños, con mesas más pequeñas y libros infantiles. Me rresultó bonito ver a un par de niños leyendo con mucha atención.
The day I went to see the performance of The Nutcracker with my boyfriend I had the Third Foodie Moment of the month. That day we tried the coffee at the Cafeteria of the Librería del Sur Aquiles Nazoa located inside the Teatro Teresa Carreño. We also tried some cookies and a slice of chocolate cake that tempted us from the first moment we saw it. The really divine thing about that slice of cake was its intense hazelnut flavored coating. The crumb itself was very soft and fluffy, but it lacked a stronger cocoa flavor. I found the space to be pleasant and very asthetic, the decor was very minimalist and they even had a space for children, with smaller tables and children's books. It was nice to see a couple of kids reading attentively.
IV.
Para un Cuarto Momento Foodie, tenemos a los shawarmas de Annkara en el Centro Comercial Sambil La Candelaria. A veces salir a comer a la feria de un centro comercial con un grupo de amigos grande puede ser algo complicado, pues al final todos piden su comida en locales diferentes y como algunos pedidos tardan más que otros, siempre hay uno que termina comiendo cuando todos los demás ya han terminado...algo parecido fue lo que nos ocurrió en esta oportunidad. Uno de mis amigos se decidió por comida china, otro por una hamburguesa de pollo y, mientras tanto, otros de mis tres amigos y yo optamos por el combo familiar de shawarmas.
Este combo nos pareció bastante acertado porque consitía en 4 shawarmas, 4 bebidas, 4 raciones de papas fritas y una cantidad bastante considerable de salsas (tomate, garbanzos, berenja e incluso, pico de gallo). Al final, cada uno de nosotros pagó $6 y de esta manera nos terminamos ahorrando unos $4 que perfectamente pudimos invertir en complementar con un postre...¿lo ven? esto fue una compra inteligente. Lo cierto es que el shawarma no fue para nada una estafa ¡estaba increíble! suficientes ingredientes de relleno, además de que en proporción era bastante grande. Si le sumamos a eso la ración de papas fritas créanme que se tiene un almuerzo bastante copioso.
For a Fourth Foodie Moment, we have the shawarmas of Annkara at the Sambil La Candelaria Mall. Sometimes going out to eat at a mall fair with a large group of friends can be a bit complicated, because in the end everyone orders their food in different places and as some orders take longer than others, there is always one who ends up eating when everyone else has already finished... something similar was what happened to us this time. One of my friends opted for Chinese food, another for a chicken burger and, meanwhile, another of my three friends and I opted for the family combo of shawarmas.
We found this combo to be quite successful because it consisted of 4 shawarmas, 4 drinks, 4 servings of fries and quite a considerable amount of sauces (tomato, chickpea, eggplant and even pico de gallo). In the end, each one of us paid $6 and in this way we ended up saving about $4 that we could have perfectly invested in complementing it with a dessert...you see? this was a smart purchase. The truth is that the shawarma was not a rip-off at all, it was amazing! enough filling ingredients, plus in proportion it was quite big. Add to that the portion of fries and believe me you have a pretty hearty lunch.
V.
El último Momento Foodie fue el postre de ese mismo día de los shawarmas (ja, ja, ja). Ese día yo le di a mis amigos la buena recomendación de que tenían que probar algo de Zaituna Café porque simplemente ese lugar es genial. Como ellos saben que yo nunca fallo a mis recomendaciones terminaron por hacerme caso y todos decidimos que Zaituna sería el lugar perfecto para saciar nuestros corazones dulceros. En esta oacasión yo quise probar la Cheesecake de Tiramisú, aunque si les soy sincera no me sorprendió...no me vayan a malinterpretar, estaba sabrosa pero sinceramente he probado otras mil veces mejores. Esta cheesecake tenía algo diferente en su textura que no me terminara de convencer, además de que podía percibir de inmediato ese sabor a lácteo que no me gusta demasiado. Pude probar también la cheesecake de fresa que pidió uno de mis amigos y corroboré que tampoco tenía algo que la hiciera resaltar. Aquí fue donde comprobé que definitivamente las mejores cheesecakes de Caracas se encuentran en Canel Restaurant.
The last Foodie Moment was the dessert that same day of the shawarmas (ha, ha, ha, ha). That day I gave my friends the good recommendation that they had to try something from Zaituna Café because that place is simply great. Since they know that I never fail my recommendations they ended up listening to me and we all decided that Zaituna would be the perfect place to satiate our sweet tooth. This time I wanted to try the Tiramisu Cheesecake, although if I'm honest I wasn't surprised...don't get me wrong, it was tasty but honestly I've tasted a thousand times better. This cheesecake had something different in its texture that did not convince me, plus I could immediately perceive that dairy flavor that I do not like too much. I was also able to try the strawberry cheesecake that one of my friends ordered and I corroborated that it didn't have something that made it stand out either. This is where I found out that definitely the best cheesecakes in Caracas can be found at Canel Restaurant.
