I've used that saf stuff too for baguettes. I think it also is good added in part to loaves!

I actually had to rush and get them out of the oven as I'd got a class so didn't get much crunch...
Do you put a tray of water in the oven to get a crunchy crust?

I do indeed. In fact I have been doing it so long that my oven is a bit rusty inside! I also cook a good bit longer than any recipe says to get that well fired dark brown crunchy loveliness!
