Hello beautiful people! Welcome back to my space. I am glad we made it to the month of May, and I wish you the very best that May has to offer.
One of the things I enjoy doing in my free time is gardening. The story was very different when I was much younger, smile. At that time, if I could dodge anything that had to do with planting or gardening, I would have gladly done so. This was because I felt it was just too stressful.
Now that I have grown up, the story is quite different. From the time I left the university, I began to develop a kind of love for growing plants no matter how little the space available. Maybe because I am a botanist, hehehe (but I am not practicing 🤦♀️).
With the way the price of foodstuffs have gone up, I am glad that I and my family are engaging in little farming activities that we do. What I and my family practice may well be considered as subsistence farming. We do not grow crops to sell, but we do share with friends.
Some of the plants we grow are cassava, cocoyam, yams, plantains and banana. We also grow vegetables like fluted pumpkin (ugu in my language), basil, waterleaf, spinach. I must not forget turmeric.
Growing these crops in the space we have inside our premises has been one of the best decisions I ever. When the vegetables are in season, I have more than enough to use and to share with others. And when it is not in season, I have enough to enjoy with my family.
I still buy a lot of foodstuffs from the market though, because no man is an island. But I am glad for the much I get from my garden.
Thank you so much for reading my post. I wrote this as my response to today's #mayinleo prompt from @leogrowth. Please leave your thoughts in the comments and I will get back to you.
