Hello all, hope all of you are doing fine. With the last 2 food places intro all coming from the same mall at The Star Vista, I am back here once again to discover more amazing eating places here. This mall consist of a theatre for concerts, various retail shops and most importantly, a food haven. My wife and I are here to get a nice place for dinner.
The Place
Ippudo 一风堂

Ippudo is a well known Ramen chain that is available globally and I have tasted more than once when I was abroad. There are 15 outlets available here in Singapore. While it is easy to locate the outlets, I would want to share with you on the quality Ramen that is being served here at Ippudo.
Tucked at the corner of The Star Vista, it is still easily to locate because each level is easily accessible and it is not hard to spot the shop. Love this place as it boast a huge carpark and it is so easily accessible by Mass Rapid Transit as it is located right beside Buona Vista station.
Here's how the place looks like:

The place is well maintained and very clean. Simple decor with slightly warmer lights to make the dining experience better. It offers both standard seats and bar seats. Bar seats is something that Japanese love as they can interact with the chef as their noodles are being prepared and usually singles loves to take up those seats. The interior decor is simple with hints of Japanese influence. I like the ambience as I can enjoy the Ramen without any disturbance. So let's get right on to the food.
The Food
Now to the main highlight of this post, the food that we ordered.
And so here's what we've ordered:
- Akamaru Ramen (Me)
- Tonkotsu Soy Sauce Ramen (Wife)
- Teba Kara (for sharing)
- Pot of Hot Green Tea (for sharing)
Let's start looking at each of the food item closely as I review them
Akamaru Ramen
While the surface didn't show much of the contents of the ramen, this bowl is packed with loads of goodness. On the surface, a big piece of Chashu is spotted but actually had another 2 pieces below it. The Chashu had such a great texture that it will just melt in your mouth as you eat it. Along with it is a onsen egg (soft cooked egg) with running insides, cooked to perfection and taste great when accompanied by the soup. Next will be the green onions which is added to give some freshness taste to the soup. The red sauce in the centre is a unique spicy miso curated by the shop. I would say, this spicy miso is the soul to this bowl of ramen as it totally elevates the taste of the soup and I drank every ounce of the soup and polish the whole bowl clean. The ramen is nicely done at the right texture as I wanted it to be as it soaks up the soup and make it so good to munch on. Quality ramen for sure and made to simply perfection.
Tonkotsu Soy Sauce Ramen
My wife ordered Tonkotsu Soy Sauce ramen which also taste fantastic. It's soup has a strong garlic taste that is not overpowering but makes the soup so appetizing. It also has the Chashu and onsen egg that came with my Akamaru. The ramen texture was good as well with no signs of clumping of the noodles as they are well spread out. My wife also gobbled down all the soup. While it is equally good, I still like that extra bit of spice that Akamura had.
Teba Kara
This dish is not for those whom cannot take spice. Even for me and my wife whom love spicy food, the spicy kick from these chicken wings can be felt the moment you put it in your mouth. While it is spicy, it did not mask off the taste of the chicken and the chicken is fried to the right crispyness. Really nice to randomly ordered this as a side to supplement our main ramen.
Hot Japanese Green Tea
A nice pot of green tea as our beverage though the main thing we actually drink was actually the broth. However, this is good as it removes the oilyness that came from the Teba Kara and also some parts of the soup. Easy to drink and refillable.
Overall:
An awesome place to savour a good meal with ramen made with so much quality. I am sure the ingredients being used to brew the broth is of good quality as there is so much umami-ness oozing into your mouth as you enjoy this simple meal of ramen. Fantastic ambience which is spacious and conducive environment for eating. Though it would be a little interesting if we can hear the symphony made my the slurping of the noodles like how it is done in Japan. But nevertheless, a place that I will come back again for the amazing ramen that is really well done.
