The story that needed to be told
When I finally was able to watch the movie earlier this week, I was excited to find out how the movie turned out. Even though this account is not around since the old platform days, my previous account was and I too have been there to see Justin Sun take over Steemit and al the shit that went down after. Even though I was personally not financially affected, of course I also had a strong opinion about what was happening and how he handled things.
Freechain
When we started watching the movie, I was intrigued from the first moment and to my personal opinion the filming was done well and I liked the narrator part as well. I already knew it was not going to be focussed on the negative part too much but rather the fact that a community stood up to create something new together and that a community can not be bought, not even by a billionaire rich boy.
I'm trying not to spoil too much here because I know there's one day left that people still could start watching it and it would suck to spoil everything here.. I really appreciated some humour in the movie as well for example the fact that you see Ned with his guitar and probably only the Steemit members from back then remember what that was about, those that were there at the time know about the hilarious moments of him streaming live with the guitar. I surely remember all the memes following after.
One thing I would have loved to see different
This is not something that made me enjoy the movie any less but if I have to give a bit of feedback I would have tried to take a bit more time from the creation of Steemit to the hostile take over because of the community that grew in this period, after all during this time something started to grow that made people stand together when Justin took over and I would have liked to see that this part lasted a bit longer than it did.
Voting
Then I wanted to vote for the movie right after only to find out that I needed to vote for a second movie, which I didn't read at first. We clicked on 10 movies that evening, of which none grabbed our attention longer than a few minutes and yes, we really tried!
I decided to call it a day and check some others in the next days and then vote. This turned out to be so frustrating because honestly, I didn't really feel any was my cup of tea as I couldn't even finish watching them without getting bored. So I admit that in the end, I just picked a second one to vote on. Not great but I didn't want my vote to go to waste.
This part made it even more clear how well Freechain was made and that it's actually worthy of winning. I really hope that the community came together once more to purchase a ticket and vote on "our" Freechain movie, after all, we were all part of that moment in history where the billionaire thought he could get his way, not realizing how strong the community behind the platform was by that time.
Conclusion
Seeing this movie was another boost to realize how far I've come from the old platform days where I was broke as can be, trying to climb back up from being homeless and building our lives back from scratch. Steemit was my therapy for years and helped our family survive many many times. That we forked to Hive afterwards is probably a very good thing because from what I've seen on the old platform, that is nothing like what we have here now. Hive is where it's at and I don't think I can imagine my life without the connections I made here (and on the old platform).
The story is revolutionary in my opinion. I hope Freechain wins! Well done @lordbutterfly!
